12 Ways to Fall in Love with San Jose del Cabo

The less commercial of the two Cabos, San Jose del Cabo is a place where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Pacific Ocean and the desert meets the sea. I spent three nights in this paradise, and could easily spend 30 more. See below for the highlights of my trip, and feel free to use this as a guide if you ever find yourself on a quick trip to the south side of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

1. Watch the sunrise over the ocean and keep an eye out for leaping manta, mobula and eagle rays. Setup your tripod and self-timer, but if you do carry a tripod, keep in mind you MUST check your bag.

2. Get a Balinese massage (which supposedly enhances fertility?!) at Casa del Mar's spa -- the jasmine frangipani massage oil they use is also an aphrodisiac.

3. Attend a rooftop show at Hotel el Ganzo (check the hotel's website for their Cultural Calendar, which includes rooftop performances, artists in residence and full moon yoga)

4. Take a farm tour (or cooking class) and have a farm-to-table dinner at Huerta Los Tamarindos. Do not leave without having a slice of the chocolate cake.

5. Shop for cute artisanal stuff at the adorable Shima Shima boutique.

6. Smell/buy natural soaps and oils at (the beautiful but slightly overpriced) Santo.

7. Beer yourself at Baja Brewing Co

8. Do take a sunset bike ride around the marina. Don't have an accident/encounter with a rock that leaves you with a broken clavicle and unable to participate in the Ironman race (true story, this happened to a guy we met at El Ganzo)

9. Get married at Flora Farms (if you're Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo)

10. Get in touch with your artsy side. Write a book on the beach; photograph moths and other insects. Learn a new language, or maybe how to play an instrument.

11. Play hide-and-seek amidst the stone and bronze masterpieces by Mexican artists Jose Luis Cuevas, Manuel Felguerez and Gabriel Macotela in the Sculpture Garden at Puerto Los Cabos.

12. Drink tequila. Lots of it.
